Discover the Nature Reserve
by Moëze-Oléron
A true paradise for birds, the Moëze nature reserve covers more than 6000 hectares of mudflats located in the heart of the Brouage marsh, facing the island of Oléron…
An idea for an outing that will delight lovers of ornithology and beautiful nature during their holidays at the campsite.
The favorite place for wintering and bird migration
The visitor will be able to observe many migratory birds, shorebirds and breeders (nearly 270 species including storks, bluethroats, stilts, barges and oystercatchers ….) who take advantage of the rhythm of the tides to feed in the reserve between meadows, salt meadows, dunes and mudflats.
Throughout the year, discovery outings and animations are offered by the professionals of the League for the Protection of Birds.
Four interpretive trails developed
4 kilometers from the campsite (3.2km by bike by the beach road), the Moëze-Oléron Nature Reserve is a sweet green parenthesis that offers holidaymakers to enjoy a unique environment in Charente-Maritime.
Discover the “Polder Trail”, the “Tannes Trail”, the “Sea Slats Trail” or the “Sand Pland Trail“. You will walk in the heart of the old salt marshes. On the banks, you can observe at leisure the ” Scottish black face” sheep that naturally contribute to the maintenance of the reserve.
If you want to know more about the riches of the Moëze-Oléron nature reserve, the Plaisance de Saint-Froult farm is a place of welcome and essential information before visiting the site. Also consult the hiking routes proposed by the Tourist Office of Rochefort Ocean.
