Ile Madame, discrete and mysterious

Back to the list

During your stay at the campsite, try exploring Islands of Charente. Ile Madame offers lovely visits and hikes or bike rides.

I book

Ile Madame is the smallest of the coastal islands of Charente joined to the mainland by the "Pass aux Boeuf" (“Passage Madame”). Madame is ideal for a day's walking through the old salt marshes, or taking the coastal path along the eastern side of the island where you can make out Fouras and the Charente coast between the fishing huts.  The island is also highly appreciated for shellfish gathering.

To see / to do: take the Cow Crossing just when the sea is dropping back; the 'Croix aux galets' cross that pays homage to the martyr priests from the Rochefort pontoons; the Ile Madame Fort redoubt and conservatory; the insurgents' well, visit to the fish farm with the chance of lunch (reservation required).
