History of Fort Lupin

Built in the17th century to protect the Royal Fountain of Lupin and to control and defend access to the Royal Arsenal of Rochefort, Fort Lupin perfectly illustrates Vauban’s unmissable talent.

Privately owned in 1950, it is one of the best preserved forts to date.

Located on the left bank of the Charente estuary, you can admire this half-moon fort, surrounded by a water ditch that protects it from land. It is one of the historical masterpieces, among all the fortifications present in Charente Maritime.
